How to Photograph an Eye

A phone photo is enough for Kristina Pechen to paint an iris by hand. A few minutes near a window give her everything she needs.

What makes a good eye photo

  • Soft daylight, near a window. No flash: it leaves a bright spot on the iris.
  • The eye wide open, looking straight at the lens. Glasses off.
  • Tap the iris on your screen to focus before you take the photo.
  • Take a few photos and send the sharpest. If someone can help, the back camera is sharper than the selfie camera.

Sending the photo

Upload it on the product page when you order. Planning a surprise, or still waiting for the photo? Choose “Send later / Surprise gift”: after checkout we email you, and you send the photo when you have it.

What happens next

Kristina checks the photo before she paints. If she needs a better one, she asks. When the iris is painted, she sends you a macro photo, and nothing is sealed until you approve it.
